Sometimes the best restaurant gems are tucked away, waiting for us to discover them. Michikusa is in a small retail center off of Old Todds Road on the Southeast side of Lexington, where I heard two of my favorite sushi chefs in town had relocated. I couldn't get there fast enough to sample their new sushi creations.
Somehow, even though we were wearing masks, the two chefs recognized us and cheerfully welcomed us as the hostess sat us at our table. The restaurant's vibe is casual but sophisticated, and incredibly similar to small restaurants I've visited in Tokyo, albeit with more space between tables at Michikusa.
The menu's offerings of noodles and bento boxes were tempting, but I opted for miso soup and the sushi lunch combo, which included four pieces of nigiri and a tuna roll. Every bite was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, so much so that I ordered two more pieces of nigiri. I'm looking forward to visiting again for my second favorite Japanese dish--ramen! Wait. Or is my second favorite udon? Hmm... So many great choices, and I can't wait to go back and try them all at Michikusa.
